I wanted to pop by and let you know that we will not be at the Eugene Saturday Market this weekend. We are very busy getting ready for the fiber festival, Black Sheep Gathering, on June 19-21 in Eugene. Jeff is making lots of buttons and I have so many to tie on cards. (My muffin tins are overflowing!) We’ll also be busy getting shawl pins, knitting magnets, and animal crossing signs ready among other things. Our market friend Fiona (check out her artwork, it’s amazing!) let us borrow some display pieces for the show and we’re so grateful to her because now we can focus on making stuff instead of making displays. She has a tall, spinning greeting card rack that is going to be perfect for displaying our button cards.
We had a booth at the Black Sheep Gathering for the first time last year and we had such a great response to our offerings, we’re really looking forward to being back this year. For those of you within driving distance, it’s a wonderful place for fiber lovers!
By the way, did you know that it’s World Wide Knit in Public Day tomorrow? (It was created in 2005 and is the world’s largest knitter event.) I saw a flyer up at a local yarn shop recently. We’ll be having a rare weekend at home, so I won’t be knitting in public anywhere, but I’m planning on picking up my needles and thinking about the knitters all around the world doing the very same thing.
So, we’ll be in buttonland over here this weekend. What are you guys up to over the weekend?

Your buttons are amazing, hope you have a great time at the black sheep gathering. x

Oh my goodness, I would love to go to the BSG. That would be so much fun. But I’m afraid I would spend a fortune and have to work the rest of my life to pay it off. I will be going to a smaller version in Ashville, N. Carolina called SAFF in Oct. though. Can hardly wait for that.
Although, I do have my own sheep and just had the last 4 sheared today! So I have plenty of wool to keep me busy for a long time. 13 sheep fleeces and 4 alpaca fleeces to work with. Plus various others that I’ve been buying along the way.
And I will be going to my farmers market in the morning. So need to be getting ready for that. I do have my car loaded but still need to pick lettuce in the morning.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and don;t work too hard!

Kris,
What will you do with all that fiber? Do you spin?
I hope you have a great farmer’s market and sell lots!
Love,
Taryn

Yes I do spin. I love it. I’m just trying to think what I should do with all these fleeces. Maybe I’ll send them off to be processed. Not sure. I talked to a lady up on the mountain in Mentone who has a little fiber shop. She said she would probably buy my yarn if it was dyed. Lots of colors. I am just a natural person myself. But want to sell my yarns. So I guess I’ll dye some.
Would you rather have natural wool yarn or colors? Would you rather dye the yarn yourself? I just need to know what knitters want and market my yarns better. And thanks. I love going to market. It was a good day. Ours is only 2 hours.

Kris,
Sending the fleeces off to be processed sure sounds nice. I’ve been downsizing around here and finding homes for some fleeces because I just haven’t been able to get to them all. I love the natural color wool too, it’s my favorite. But I think it would be fun to dapple in natural dyes too.
Only two hours for a market? That sounds pretty nice. 🙂
Love,
Taryn

Seems like after 2 hours, people stop coming. We do have one market that’s on Sunday that goes all day. It’s in Chattanooga. They have farmers and crafters and live music and lots of good local food. Great place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Just wondering if y’all have ever made beads for dreads? I would love some natural wooden beads for mine. Maybe with trees and honey bees. That would be fun! Most of my dreads are thin. A few are thicker. And not my whole head is done yet. Still thinking about it. Just thought I’d ask. I’m sure people have asked you before.

Jeff has made beads in the past. He hasn’t made any specifically for dreads, but I think a few people mentioned it at market before. I’ll ask him if he could make any. Trees and bees would be awesome!
