Over the weekend a friend had a birthday and I asked her if she wanted to do anything special for it. She especially loves waterfalls and there was a place she had heard of and wanted to visit. Bracken and I left with our friends Saturday morning from market and went on an adventure to Alsea Falls. What a beautiful place. To spend the day walking the trails, seeing the sights, and being near the water felt wonderful. The day was overcast and not too hot. We saw (and enjoyed) the largest wild huckleberries I’ve ever seen. The boys loved to lead the way on the trails. And toss pebbles in the water. We had a picnic at the waterfalls and another one in the forest.
But what really made that beautiful place so enjoyable was being in good company. To have good conversations with kindred spirits, what a gift that is. I’m grateful that friends get us to see new places and do new things. I don’t think I would have experienced Alsea Falls if our friends hadn’t brought us there.
When I first moved to Oregon, I was in awe of what a beautiful state it was. (I still am.) There was so much beauty and variety, so much to explore. I told someone once that I could spend my entire lifetime exploring just that single state alone and would still not see all there is to see. I still feel the same way. I’ve lived in Oregon for ten years now and I feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of what there is to see, but I’m so glad to add another place to my list of spots I’ve explored so far.
Do any of you have any favorite places to visit in Oregon?

I loved living in Oregon. I would never have left were it not for the recession in the early 80’s. I lived up at Odell Lake on the Willamette Pass above Oakridge. Odell Lake is beautiful, sitting below Diamond Peak and the Ski Pass. I managed a little resort on the west end until it sold. From the pictures, it still looks beautiful and would be a lovely place to visit. In the fall, when the Kokanee (sp?) spawn under the docks, the trees used to literally be FULL of Bald Eagles.

Beautiful pictures Taryn! If you are ever wanting to see more beautiful areas you go to the North Umpqua area which is anything past Glide which is E. of Roseburg. Our family camped there anytime we could. If you keep traveling further you will see Diamond Lake and then Crater Lake. All must see’s.
Love from Aunt Isla.

I grew up in Northeastern Oregon. One of my favorite places is Wallowa County. We spent summers at Wallowa Lake and hiking Hurricane Creek. I realize that it might be quite a journey for you 🙂 I don’t know if you have ever gone on the Hobbit Trail? I believe it’s North of Florence off of 101.

Thanks, I’ll put it on my Oregon list. And yes, I love the Hobbit Trail!

I’ve lived here all my life, and I too feel like I’ve just scratched the surface as to all that Oregon has to offer!
Beautiful pics!

Oregon is indeed beautiful. I visited that area with my son last spring and found the best nettles I’ve seen anywhere. It’s so green and moist. Down here in the Rogue Valley we love to visit the upper Rogue area. Beautiful hikes and clear cold wild rogue river. It’s amazing.

I’ve not been to Oregon yet but will within the next few years. Is there a natural water slide in the waterfall? It looks like there should be…almost.
tarynkae says
Not there. But I know a place where there is a natural waterslide!
