…Joining Ginny’s YarnAlong, sharing what I’m knitting and reading…
It’s been a crazy couple of days around here. The knitting above has all been done in the E.R. and in waiting rooms. Yesterday Jeff started seeing black dots in one of his eyes and then a big black blob, severely impairing his vision. When he looked it up online, those were symptoms of a detached retina, something serious that requires surgery right away so you don’t lose your eyesight. He called his eye doctor and made an appointment for this morning, but the receptionist insisted that he must go to the emergency room right away. We didn’t know what the purpose of that would be, since there was nothing they could do for us at the emergency room, but I drove Jeff there anyway. We waited for many, many hours in the emergency room (where they called Jeff’s eye doctor and he wondered why we were there) only to be told there was nothing they could do for us. We got home late last night and then left early this morning for Jeff’s eye appointment. We fully expected Jeff to go into surgery today, but after his doctor inspected his eye, we got some really good news. No surgery required and it’s something that will clear up on it’s own with time. Phew. It felt like a miracle, really. (Exhausted and hungry, we stopped by Vanilla Jill’s for some nourishment before heading home. Their soup today was pumpkin spice- delicious, by the way.)
This isn’t like my usual YarnAlong posts, I know, but I’ll get to the knitting part. I was having a hard time with Bracken’s birthday sweater. My gauge was so off with the beautiful handspun yarn I planned to make it in, that the woman at the knit shop told me I’d have to knit the newborn baby size (or switch to needles that would have been much too small for it to turn out right.) I’m still a newbie when it comes to gauge and it was all getting too complicated, I realized it was a project I would need much more time for, and not something I’d be able to finish in time for his birthday. It’s a sweater pattern I adore (Oh Gramps, you’ll just have to wait!) and plan to make for him for Christmas instead. So instead of a birthday sweater, I’m knitting him a birthday vest. I met a kind woman at the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival (who I deemed my new knitting guru), who really helped me figure it all out. I had another vest pattern in mind using DK yarn, but then came across yarn I really wanted to knit him a vest in that was bulky weight. She pulled up Ravelry on her phone, searching for vests with bulky yarn, and showed me the Little Billy Goat vest. I fell in love with it (which really helps me wait to knit his sweater!) and that’s what I’m working on now.
So, that’s my very long YarnAlong post for today. How about you, friends? Knitting? Reading?

So glad that Jeff’s eye problem wasn’t a detached retina. I know all of you must have been scared stiff!
Thank goodness for new tech savvy friends too.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

What a scarey thing to have happen to your husband’s eye. And how amazing that it did not require surgery. I would have been frantic as that is such an emergent situation, and you were blown off at the ER!
Glad you had some soup and all is OK. ! Blessings…

Wow that sounded a bit scary – any thing to do with eye’s always does – glad it was nothing too serious.
Just had a look on ravely at the Little Billy Goat, it’s going to be lovely.
That soup looks delicious!

How very scary for you all. We sometimes don’t realize how important every part of our health is till something happens . I am glad he didn’t have to have surgery and that it will correct itself.
I adored all your pictures. Such loveliness to be around.
Healing thoughts to Jeff.

I am so glad Jeff is going to be ok. I’m sure that was quite scary. But looks like y’all had a great time at the fiber festival! I would love to come to this some time. Your booth looks great too. And I love the little vest you’re knitting. I also have a problem with gauge. I’m knitting a sweater my myself and was so glad I took my gauge swatch back to the yarn store or I would have been knitting a baby sweater. Now it will fit me!

With knitting we all have our gauge challenges. I just know the vest will be very cute.
Sending healing prayers to Jeff. We can’t afford to loose our talented button maker and friend to a bit of eye trouble.
The soup looks so yummy and a perfect ending to a troubled couple of days.

My goodness, how scary for you all. I had a partially detached retina just last year and it is fixable thank goodness. I’m glad to hear that Jeff’s condition isn’t that and that it will take care of itself. Such a lucky break. Hope it clears up soon.
