Sometimes on a hard day (or during a hard week or even longer, for that matter) it’s easy to get wrapped up in a panic like Chicken Little, running around and feeling like the sky is falling. Because it feels like all the pieces are falling down around you. Lately I’ve felt Chicken-Little-ness creep up on me from time to time, when one challenge suddenly magnifies all the others and makes everything feel way too huge. This morning I felt overwhelmed and heavyhearted, and then I looked out the window and I saw the sun shining through the trees on the other side of the mountain and I grabbed my camera, slipped on my boots, and ran outside.
As soon as I stood there and took in the view and heard the birds singing all around me, I suddenly felt the emergency mode slip away. Getting outside for even a few moments brought some calm to my heart. And I knew that everything was going to be okay. I could breath a sigh of relief because even though my challenges sometimes feel like they are so beyond me- then the light shines through and I get some clarity. The clarity that everything is going to be alright and the reminder to not take my challenges too seriously or too personally.
That’s where humor comes in because nothing lightens a heavy heart (or a case of being overly serious) like some good, hearty laughter! They say laughter is the best medicine and it’s so true. Two things off the top of my head that make me laugh: the movie Best in Show and the show Parks & Recreation. Maybe you are in need of a good dose of humor today too. If so, it does not matter what it is, just find something that makes you laugh! (What is sure to make you laugh whenever you are in need of a good laugh? Please share in the comments to give us all some inspiration.) I’ll leave you with a snippet of a recent conversation Jeff and I had. 🙂
Taryn: “That’s one of my pet peeves.”
Jeff: “You have a lot of pet peeves.”
Taryn: “You married me, so now you have a lot of pet peeves to memorize.”
Jeff: “Memorizing pet peeves is one of my pet peeves.”

I’m so glad you were there at just the right moment to see that. Sometimes it’s all we need.
Whenever I hear babies laughing, I cannot help but be happy.

Bwhaaaaaa!!! You crack me up.
Yesterday Ricky & I were in desperate need of some time away from home. We drove about 10 miles from our woods to Severt-Iverson Memorial Park, a Douglas County Park that is being threatened by our brilliant parks dept. & county commissioners to be clearcut to fund other ‘more popular’ parks. We spent the morning hiking through the beauty of this amazing place and were blessed with sunshine peeking down on us, the trees and the luscious stream.

Best in Show is hilarious! Yesterday I was watching a tv show called Angel from Hell, which stars Jane Lynch as a guardian angel, and it reminded me of how funny she was in Best in Show. My favorite line from that movie is theverything one about trying to get the smell of cumin out of the hotel drapes. I crack up every time!
