3/17/2016– The three of us planted peas while it was sunny, after Jeff had soaked them overnight. We also brought our “seed drawer” outside to go through everything. Jars and bags (a few unmarked) from years of Jeff’s seed saving, were all identified and organized. Jeff and Bracken scattered all our old seeds down below, looking forward to the fun surprise of what will pop up. Going through the seed drawer helped us make our list of what seeds we need to order.
3/18/2016– First nettle harvest. Jeff and Bracken planted lettuce, kale, collards, chard and calendula.
3/19/2016– Harvested watercress, arugula, parsley, and chives for our salad. Also harvested more nettles, and some mint and lemonbalm for juicing. Have been enjoying nettles steamed as well.
3/24/2016– Saw the first green of the seedlings popping up in the trays. Catnip coming back, want to plant more. Noticed hostas coming up along the front walkway. (I love the way they look at that early stage, almost like they’re wrapping a green robe around themselves to keep warm.) Visited the trilliums on our walk, admiring the last of them. (The petals turn from white to pink as they fade away.)
We’re dreaming about raised beds we’d like to build and all the things we want to plant in the garden this year. Are you garden dreaming right now?
Your garden notes are lovely! I find your wooden box of seeds to be so charming! It’s still a bit early here in the North to start planting. We still have another month or so before we can start seeds outdoors. I have started some seeds indoors though.

Just a small note – you have inspired me to attempt my first adult sweater – for me…beginning with February Lady – Ravelry – and Deep Feelings also found on Ravelry…Deep Feelings is so lovely but will be a challenge.

That’s exciting!
As usual so refreshing to read your post…I want to figure out a way to turn my 6’X4′ patio into a garden…make a sprouts for myself…all of the greens you talk about…is it too late to plant them now….I can use a corner of my son’s yard if I want…HELP….!any suggestions to what I might do?
There’s still plenty of time for planting! Your local garden center would be a great place to ask questions. Also your local farmer’s market. And you could find some helpful books at the library!
