We had a booth at the Wildflower & Music Festival over the weekend, at beautiful Mt. Pisgah. We look forward to it each year. It was a nice day and hot. The shift from the longest, rainiest winter to blazing hot days was not a gradual one this year and has been an adjustment to get used to the intense heat so rapidly. (Though I believe I can speak for everyone around here that we are mighty happy to see sunshine! So I will remember that and do my best to sweat in peace, and without complaint.)
Every time I go to the Wildflower and Music Festival, I learn new flowers when we visit the display. Bracken’s friend has been very into identifying wildflowers lately and brought her field guide along to look up any flowers she saw while we were walking around. How wonderful it was for her to look at all those wildflowers that were labeled!
I enjoy the art in nature trail they have each year and this time there was a weaving that people were invited to add to. It’s a challenge for the children to see all the beautiful nature art and not want to touch it all, so it was great to have an interactive work of art that they could participate in. The weaving was full of flowers, leaves, sticks, and bits of wool. I thought how fun it would be to make one of those in the garden, the children loved it.
Another popular display, in addition to the weaving, was what looked like a woven nest. Suddenly a group of giggling children were magically transformed into baby birds. With all the fun things to do at the festival, Bracken would have been content to simply catch caterpillars with his friends all day, and they did spend a long time doing just that. There were tiny green caterpillars to be found everywhere (and luckily we always have a little bug cage with us these days, though they were all released shortly after they were caught.)
Apparently I temporarily lost my marbles and thought that the horses were going to be there, but we’ll have to wait for the Mushroom Festival for our beloved hay rides!
