Throughout the week I’ve felt grateful for:
…The swirls of the hosta leaves outside our door. And the beauty of nature.
.
…Rearranging and re-figuring how we packed the car for market and watching our system get smoother all the time. (Though we still have a long ways to go!)
.
…Feeling sunshine on my face a long time after being out in it. I love that feeling.
.
…Jeff fixing his broken saw. We were certainly glad about that, as a new one was not in the budget.
.
…Lots of productive time in the kitchen. Making good things to eat and getting into a better rhythm for packing things for days away.
.
…Waking up after a good sleep, on a morning without any alarm clocks or places to be at a certain time.
.
…Jeff bringing me gifts of freshly harvested nettles to the kitchen in the mornings. Can’t get enough of them.
.
…The gentle sound of the rain at night.
.
…Finally hanging the prayer flags our friends gave us from their trip, on the fence outside. I love watching them flap in the breeze.
.
…Jeff’s inspiration to eat breakfast in the garden. Barefoot, enjoying our delicious food in the warm sunshine… best idea ever!
.
…The simple delight of water with fresh lemon juice.
.
…Watching the ducks as they wiggled with joy in their pool after I’d filled it with fresh water. I enjoy watching them do that so much.
.
…Bracken bringing out his little pool in the yard for the first time this year. It was seriously that warm.
.
…Jeff surprising us and baking the yams I had planned (but not gotten to) baking that day. Bracken was pretty pleased when he found out what was in the oven.
.
…Incredibly gorgeous weather at market yesterday!
.
…Jeff and Bracken visiting the pond after putting the chickens away for the night. Talking to the frogs in the pond is a favorite activity of theirs and quite a fun way to end the day, I might add.

You always make me smile the way the simple things are so appreciated in your blog. I hope this isn’t too forward but I love how you make do with so very little in the way of finances. We are a blended farming family of 7 who has to drive a suburban to fit everyone safely along with all of our gear and it takes a toll on the budget. Our kids may not have the newest toys and my partner and I may have holes in our clothing or winter coats that are 10 years old+ but we are happy and we make do. It’s nice to see someone else not letting that deter them from their dreams. Thanks for keeping it real. Your blog has always been a favorite of mine for that reason.

Thanks so much for your sweet and thoughtful comment, Megan! And that’s not too forward at all. Sometimes I feel like a small income can really be looked down upon in today’s world, but there are such important reasons we’ve chosen to live this way- to be together as a family and do something we love. I know you know just what I mean. Thanks for sharing about your life. It sounds blessed with the important things. 🙂
And thanks for reading my blog, it means a lot to me.
