and reading…
I finished the knitted bear just in time for my mom’s birthday. Jeff made the buttons specially for this project. The heart was made in reclaimed western red cedar and the wee button eyes were made in reclaimed ebony wood. I create the nose with light pink embroidery floss (I always have a hard time with that part) and made her a little flower headband in wool felt. I wanted to make her girly, and the headband was the perfect touch.
These pictures were taken in a grocery store parking lot. Some pictures were taken in the car, some in a tree, and some in a bush. We were on our way to Saturday Market, but I had finished the bear late Friday night and hadn’t had a chance to photograph her yet. I wanted to get some pictures of her before I taped the box up. Jeff parked the car to run into the grocery store and grab something quickly, then we were going to be dropping the package off at the post office, and heading to market. So, my chance to take pictures was a few moments in the grocery store parking lot. I searched for the only greenery I could find in the bare surroundings and I made some people drive really slow past me as they wondered what in the world I was doing. (Don’t people photograph little bears in trees all the time?) These pictures really don’t do her justice (I’d like to take more next time I’m with my mom), she turned out adorable. My mom is in love with her bear and named her Daisy.
How about you? Knitting? Reading? Taking random pictures in parking lots?
She turned out so sweetly! Love the heart button. Her headband is adorable too <3

I have just just the perfect little recipient in mind for this darling bear β‘
She is SO cute!!! I know your Mom must be tickled pink.
I’m like you about embroidery on knitted things. It’s hard to do, but I found a little secret: Get a piece of felt and cut out the shape that you want to embroider. Simply lay or glue or pin the piece where you want it to go, and embroider over it. Your stitches will cover up the felt but the edges of it give you not only a stitch guide, but will hold up the odd stitches that happen to fall right where a “hole” in the knitting might be. You embroider like you normally would, but the little piece of fabric underneath helps to keep the edges of the embroidery even and held together. Maybe not the perfect solution, but I think it works pretty good.
Anyway – your Mom’s bear is wonderful!
Thank you, thank you for that most wonderful tip!! I will do that next time! π
