…Joining Ginny’s YarnAlong, sharing what I’m knitting and reading…
My favorite YarnAlongs are the ones where I have a finished knit to share. (This is the gift that I was working on last Wednesday.) I was knitting away to get this little vest done in time for our trip to visit family last week. I was sewing on the button as we drove up the driveway to the farm and told Jeff and Bracken that I couldn’t go in the house with them until I’d finished sewing on the button, but I did get the vest finished just in the nick of time.
I knit this vest for my nephew Gabe’s first birthday. We celebrated his birthday a little early while we were down there, along with Bracken’s. I’ve adored the Harold vest pattern for a long time (it’s so cute!) and as I thought about what I wanted to knit for him for his birthday, I kept getting an image of that vest in my head. I snapped a few pictures of it on some rocks in the afternoon light when I finished it, but it was so much more fun taking pictures of the vest on Gabe.
Details: Jeff made the button for me in reclaimed western red cedar. I love the way that wood pops with the brown yarn. I found the yarn at the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival, by Wolf Ridge Icelandics from Montana.
How about you? Knitting? Reading?

Love this vest – so full of natural, rustic, texture, with one of your lovely buttons, of course! Was so good to meet you at OFF – can’t wait to use your buttons on some special projects.

Taryn it looks so great! And of course the button just sets it off. Taking pictures of our finished projects is part of the fun I think…even when it involves babies who aren’t so keen on co-operating. Gabe looked like the perfect model though!

Taryn, the Harold Vest is absolutely adorable on your nephew! Your button finishes it just perfectly. Thank you for telling us about the pattern; I just went to Ravelry and saved it to My Favorites and to My Library of patterns. It would be nice if it could be purchased a la carte, instead of in a more expensive booklet of patterns. When a little one outgrows it, perhaps it could be transferred to a favorite teddy bear as a keepsake.

I love the idea to put it on a teddy bear when it’s outgrown, Lisa!
