There is a landscaping store in town that Bracken had been wanting to visit for awhile now. There are plants everywhere and it just looked like the kind of place he would enjoy, so Jeff took him the other day since the hardware store where they had just been was right next to it. Bracken came home telling me a story about a nest, baby birds, and a mama bird that didn’t mind anyone getting close to peek in the nest. It sounded magical and his eyes were wide as he told me, he was so excited. When my mom arrived (Yay! My mom is visiting!) Bracken insisted that we all go visit the baby birds. We picked up my mom’s boyfriend (also visiting) and we all went to see what it was all about.
When we got there, Bracken led us over to a little bush. Inside, was a nest with two baby birds. The mama bird, a finch, flew to the top of the nearby fence and watched us for a moment before flying away. The employees there told us the mama didn’t mind when people got close to the nest, as long as no one touched the baby birds. They would close their eyes, but any time you touched the bush and they could feel the movement, the birds opened up their little beaks for a meal. I’ve never been able to get so close to a nest before, it really was magical getting to watch them like that. We’ve had robins make nests in our garden, but they don’t like us getting too close. I’m so glad Bracken insisted that we make that stop! And that we followed when he wanted to show us something wondrous.
We have a few days with family visiting, so back we go to enjoy it. Have a great weekend!

New life is just awesome! I’ve had a bunch of crows cawing outside the last few days. There were 3 just cawing away, and the forth was busy pulling worms and feeding the others. So I went and looked it up, and crows mothers never kick out their young, so those cawing at her must have been babies from another season. Learn something everyday!
