Cloudy…
Sunny…
I recently finished a new hat for Bracken. The pattern is called Aston and this is my second time knitting it. His first Aston was in blue, to go with his blueberry blue sweater for his fourth birthday. (We had a blueberry blue theme that year, his favorite color.) He wore that hat so many times over these past few years and I felt it was time for him to get a new one. I love the way the hat swirls and am really fond of this pattern. I’ve noticed both times I’ve knit this pattern that my finished hats have looked different than the picture (taller) and I believe I’ve made a blooper both times, but I think the finished hats still look adorable. Bracken has started calling his new hat his “little gnome hat” and he loves it. It delights me to see how much he enjoys having a new hat.
I decided to knit his new Aston in green. Remember when I mentioned that booth I could stay in all day long at the Black Sheep Gathering? Sincere Sheep, with all natural dyes and each skein a work of art to drool over. I fell in love with this green skein there. (Cormo Worsted.) When I finished Bracken’s hat, I took pictures of him wearing it on a cloudy day and didn’t feel the pictures captured the green color. I took more pictures when it was sunny, but I still didn’t feel like I could capture the true color. I’ve decided the gorgeous deep greens and blues in this yarn just can’t be fully captured on film. This skein was dyed with indigo, as well as other natural dyes (I forgot which ones.) I know I’ve been going on and on about the color, but looking at this yarn in person I just can’t get over how beautiful the colorway is. (By the way, my Ravelry notes are here.) It won’t be long before the colder weather is here and I have a feeling this hat is going to get just as much use as the one before.
P.S. We have raspberries in the garden again! There is a tree stump that makes the perfect stand for picking them. We haven’t picked raspberries out there since spring and it’s quite a treat.

Could you tell me if the pattern is difficult or tricky? I need a simple project right now.
Thanks!

Hi Bianca,
I had a little trouble with it the first time I knit it, but the second time I knit it I didn’t have any trouble at all. I linked to a good tutorial on my Ravelry notes for psso. Such a simple maneuver, but a good tutorial makes all the difference. 🙂
I’m always seeking out simple projects too! 🙂
Love,
Taryn
