An electric company in the area was clearing the lines recently and I pulled the car over and asked if we could be on their list to get some chips. I really, really wanted to surprise Jeff because I knew how badly he had been wanting some wood chips for our yard. We had been on the list with the other electric company for years, but they hadn’t done any clearing in this area for some time. Imagine our delight when a chip truck came pulling up our driveway and dropped off a pile of chips! Bracken climbed to the top and became king of wood chip mountain and Jeff got busy spreading wood chips all over pathways throughout the garden.
Well, I saw those same trucks clearing tree branches up the road a week or so after that and asked if there was any way we could get another pile of chips. And you know what? They were happy to have somewhere to dump them off. Jeff was excited over that first pile of wood chips, but you should have seen him when we got a second pile. I’ve never seen anyone as excited over a pile of wood chips as Jeff has been (though Bracken’s been having a lot of fun too.) I seriously felt like I had just given Jeff the best gift ever on Christmas morning with the reaction I received. It was awesome. Now Bracken and I need to go through and pick out the larger stick pieces in the wood chips that are scattered around on top of the pathways. Our garden is looking like a whole new place!
P.S. Jeff and Bracken spotted that frog hanging out on a bamboo stick that had fallen in the pond. It looked like it was lounging from a floaty in a pool and we all thought it was hilarious!
