{I apologize for leaving this space quiet for such a long stretch. (How has it been 11 days since my last post?!) First I didn’t write here because I was having issues with my laptop, after that it was because Bracken was sick, and then I was scrambling to get ready for a trip that I was behind in my packing for because my hands were so full taking care of my boy. I wouldn’t have been able to get out the door without Jeff’s help, he came to the rescue. But enough about that for now. Today I wanted to come by and say hello, I didn’t want you to worry because of my long absence. I’ve missed writing here and I’ve been wanting to share another knitting project…}
With Bracken’s sweater, and then the hat for my dad, (and now today’s knitting project to share)… it would look like all I’ve been doing was knitting with all the projects I’ve been sharing here lately. (Bracken’s sweater was finished awhile ago though, I just finally took pictures of it in December.) My December knitting consisted of my dad’s hat for his birthday and then a gift for my boys for Christmas. And by “my boys” I mean Jeff (a boy at heart) and Bracken. Last February when we had a booth at Stitches West for the first time, our booth was across from two of the kindest ladies. (We will have a booth at Stitches West again this year, by the way! Any of you planning to come?) One of our booth neighbors, Colette, was selling handknit dragon mitts, as well as the pattern and dragon scales to make your own. Bracken thought they were awesome and asked me to make him a pair, and he wasn’t the only one, Jeff requested a pair too.
Since then, Bracken asked me from time to time how the progress was going on his mitts, and I finally got started on them for Christmas. I had some blue wool yarn from our friends at Timberwolf Farm, that I thought would be great to use for the mitts. (Jeff and Bracken gave me the yarn for Christmas and then I ended up knitting their Christmas presents with it the following Christmas, which I thought was perfect.) I finished Bracken’s mitts on Christmas Eve, but Jeff’s mitts were finished right after Christmas (he didn’t mind.) I would have made them both with blue scales (they both love blue), but started running low, so made Bracken’s with the blue scales and Jeff’s with the red. Jeff’s mitts would have looked really cool longer, but again I was running low on scales and I was anxious to finish them so I just made them shorter. (Sidenote: Colette has a video on her website for how to knit with the dragon scales.)
They have both been very pleased with their dragon mitts, and I smile every time Bracken wants to wear them when we leave the house and proudly show them to everyone we see. (Oh, and in that second picture? If you put your knuckles together with someone else while you both wear your dragon mitts, it increases your superpowers. Just in case you wanted to know.) The very coolest part of the dragon mitts, though?
They glow in the dark! We all think that takes the dragon mitt awesomeness to a whole new level…

Wow, the mitts look really good in the sunshine but GLOW IN THE DARK makes them really special! I can see why they both wanted a pair.

Happy to see your back and hopefully everyone is now well. The mitts are awesome, I love anything dragon related so I’m very jealous, lucky boys. Healing energy to you all, Kathie.

They turned out Awesome!!! I’m so excited to see them. I thought “boys” was a typo in the title, I didn’t know Jeff was getting a pair as well, that is the coolest! Hope you guys are soaking up the vitamin d!
