We planned on going to the May Faire at the local Waldorf School over the weekend, like we do every year, but as the day got closer I wondered if it would happen. Last week was just so busy, with lots of running around everywhere, and we only had a handful of days left to finish preparing to leave for a trip. But it has become such a sweet tradition that my boy and I have enjoyed doing together each spring, and I wanted to bring him. I also really wanted to connect with a friend that day who was going to be moving soon, so off we went that morning, making the drive to the faire.
I felt a bit worn down, and moved a little more quietly and slowly through our day. We saw familiar faces, enjoyed good food, listened to music, and went to all our favorite activities. I felt grateful to enjoy the beautiful spring day with my boy, and grateful for time to spend with my friend. It was a nice day that warmed my heart in many ways, and it made me realize that I don’t need to feel completely energized to go out into the world and enjoy myself. (Not that I always feel completely energized, of course, just doing my best to express the shift in perspective I felt happen that day.) There are times and places when being more tired and mellow is just fine. Slowing down is good for me, and is something I could use a lot more of!
