Are you planting peas in your garden this year? These pictures are from the peas we grew in last year’s garden. The cattle panel trellis pictured measures 6.5 feet at it’s tallest point, and the peas were well above that- over 7 feet tall! That amazed me, I didn’t expect them to grow that tall. I need to take into consideration the height of the raised bed, but still, the seed packet said 4 feet!
*I wanted to share the post I wrote last spring, Tips for Planting Peas, in case you find it helpful in your gardens!
We planted our peas much later this year than we normally do because it’s been such a very cold, and late season. We planted several varieties, and I love seeing all the little pea shoots popping up everywhere!
As usual, we’ve planted peas multiple times. This time it wasn’t because of something eating them, but because the first batch of soil we used had terrible drainage, and because of the weather. (The next batch of soil we used for planting was great.) That’s why we always recommend buying more seeds than you think you’ll need (and planting extra!) because you never know what will happen with the weather or what critters might try to eat those tasty shoots.
It’s a good thing that gardeners are a determined bunch, keep that up gardening friends!
