Last Thursday we got snow. It melted quickly. (Much to B’s disappointment.) There was hail, and a thunderstorm that day too. It was the first time I remember ever experiencing thunder (loud, rumble-the-house thunder) and snow on the same day. It felt like a crazy combination because growing up in the Midwest- the thunderstorms came in the summertime and the snow came in the winter.
Friday it snowed again! That time the snow lasted longer. Then it snowed on Saturday. Then on Sunday. And then again on Monday. That was the most snow I remember getting all in one stretch in the coastal range of Oregon, since moving here. Friday was the first day of March, and March had quite the entrance this year!
As I’ve shared before, getting snow here is a big deal. Especially for all the kids! I imagine all the local children doing happy dances everywhere. B did a lot of sledding with his friends over the weekend, and loved every minute of it. Seeing the pure joy on all their faces warmed my heart so much.
Our daffodils had just started blooming, and then were covered with snow. They looked like they were wearing snowy caps. B rescued a few from under the snow, and put them in vases along with some cotoneaster (the bright red berries are so pretty this time of year), and some geraniums (blooming in the greenhouse, which has been such a nice surprise this winter.) We will enjoy vases of fresh flowers around here as soon as there are any to enjoy! And we delight in them even more when we share them with friends.
Signs of spring are emerging here while winter is continuing on. Have you been getting a snowy beginning to March where you are?
