…And now… the moment you’ve all been waiting for… (ha!)… the second project I made with the adorable cactus fabric! I wanted to make something for my stepsister for her birthday. I’ve thought about knitting something for her for years, but since she lives in Texas I didn’t really think she would have much need for handknits. (I knit for my mom in Florida, but she travels to cold places for work, and also asks for me to knit her things.) I decided to sew something for her instead, and after sewing that little pincushion, I knew I wanted to make something for her with that same fabric.
Making a zipper bag was a good next step for practicing my sewing skills. Plus, I appreciate how useful zipper bags are- you can always use another one for organizing things, right? I liked the green zipper on the outside and then the surprise of a fun burst of color inside- bright pink with polka dots. Gotta love polka dots. I knew my stepsister would approve.
My boy saw a charm (to hang in a car, or anywhere) with Cowgirl boots on it that he picked out for his aunt, which we tucked inside the bag. I love that when he saw it he said we had to get it for her because she lived in Texas, and then looked at me like it was the most natural and obvious thing in the world. Of course we had to get it, why would we not? I also love that he picked it out for her before it was even her birthday or we were thinking about gifts yet, just because he felt it was meant to be hers. Just because gifts are the best, and so are the heartfelt gifts from children. So basically, by sewing a zipper bag, I was just making a pretty container for my favorite gift of all. 🙂
