We look forward to the first of November every year. Why? Because Thistledown Farm in Eugene has their annual sale. (To you locals: tomorrow is the last day!) The prices are amazing! It actually makes me laugh how excited we get about it. Today Jeff and I were absolutely giddy as we filled up our cart. We got the hugest cabbages we had ever seen in our life. We got gorgeous cauliflower. Broccoli. Zucchini. A big bag of Onions. Prunes (a treat, since we didn’t dry any ourselves this year.) Hazelnuts. Sweet Meat Squash. We stocked up on Butternut Squash because it was only 39 cents a pound! (Have you seen how much they cost at the store?) We got some Fuji Apples for fresh eating.
Our hearts were deeply grateful for the abundance of good food. It’s such a gift.
And yesterday we stopped at our neighbor’s farm. We got some soft apples for making (more) applesauce, concord grapes, pears and frozen blueberries.
This weekend there will be lots of baking, sauerkraut making, and good eatin’!
Enjoying good food is one of the greatest pleasures in life, nourishing us more deeply than just our bodies.
This time of year is bountiful with the harvest. What good things the earth gives!

What fall foods are you enjoying friends?
