Bracken’s other first on our trip back to Iowa was catching his first fish. Jeff has been telling him “fishing stories” for a long time now and it’s always been something that Bracken has talked about and gravitated towards. He was so excited. We didn’t have a child’s life vest, but my Uncle Chris had an old life vest (he said it was from the 40’s or 50’s) that had been my great grandfathers (also a fisherman.) My Uncle Chris told me he started fishing when he was maybe two or three, had a knack for it right away, and it’s been a lifelong passion ever since. He was really pleased to take Bracken out for his first time fishing. They fished right off the dock (at the lake right by my grandma’s house) and caught quite a few bluegills that day. Bracken’s only disappointment was that the fish were too small to eat. My uncle showed him how to gently release the fish back into the water. Bracken loves to eat fish and wanted to catch some to eat for dinner. I think it’s safe to say that Bracken is hooked on fishing. I told Jeff I want to take the picture of me with my first fish and put it right next to Bracken with his first.
