…Joining Ginny’s YarnAlong, sharing what I’m knitting and reading…
I tend to knit for Bracken most of the time, but I just cast on a project for myself! I’m pretty excited and a warm hat is something I will really appreciate having. I saw the pattern Hermione Hearts Ron when I was searching for hat patterns with sport weight yarn, and have had it in my Ravelry queue for quite some time. Any Harry Potter fans out there? My sister introduced me to the world of Harry Potter and the books ended up being some of my favorite books of all time. This hat keeps making me think of her and I might have to knit her one too if she likes it. I wanted to knit the hat because I thought it was so beautiful, but the fact that it was inspired by Hermione makes it even greater because she is just downright awesome. My friend is letting me borrow the knitting needles for this project and I’m so grateful to her. I didn’t want to purchase three different sets of knitting needles that the pattern calls for and in sizes I’d hardly use. My friend also happened to have knit this pattern, which is great because I’ve never knit lace before and have someone to answer my questions. The yarn is a lovely wool and alpaca blend from our friends at Timberwolf Farm.
Instead of reading picture books at bed time lately, we’ve been reading chapter books. Bracken and I have been reading a chapter each night from ‘Little House in the Big Woods’ by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I remember my mom reading these books to my sister and I when we were young, and my grandma and grandpa gave us each a set. I still smile when I open the front cover and see the inscription from them inside. My family loves these books, my great grandfather was one of the founders who started the Laura Ingalls Wilder Park & Museum in Iowa. Bracken and I are nearing the end of the first book. I think one of Bracken’s favorite parts was when Pa found the honey tree. He wants to find one too. I may hold off on reading the rest of the set for now, waiting till he is a bit older, but I’m glad he enjoys chapter books now even when the pictures are only every few pages.
How about you? Knitting? Reading?

I look forward to seeing the hat completed! I’ve had my eye on that hat since the pattern was released, and I have yet to knit it.

Very pretty hat. Homemade seems very popular these days so I’m sure the hat will go over well. I am 40 something and struggling to learn to knit, with my dear eldest passing me in leaps and bounds, so maybe she’ll attempt something like this in the near future.
LOVE the Laura years books and have many fond memories of laughter and tears while reading these aloud to our children. Another set that fare well enough as good read alouds are the Martha Years about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s great grandmother in Scotland.

Love the books, found them when my daughter was aged about 9 or 10 yrs, although i remember the TV programme when i was growing up. Its great that Bracken is able to enjoy them already. I’m hoping to start Farmer Boy with my boys soon, but sadly they think of them as ‘girls books’. Love that you have the connection with your granddad.
Loving the hat, my daughter is a ‘fan girl’ so she might be willing to accept a homemade again!!

What a lovely hat you are knitting. I’m sure the yarn is so nice, too. Laura Ingalls is one of my favorite authors, too. Have a wonderful day.

Such a lovely hat/hat pattern! Massive Harry Potter fan here, and loyal Hermione fan. What a wonderful character that freed bookworms everywhere. 🙂

I LOVE the Hermione Hearts Ron pattern! I have knit three so far. On the last one I added an extra repeat of the pattern to add length and I will do it again next time. I found the hat a little short when I followed the pattern. Hermione Hearts Ron is my go-to hat for when I’m out and about.
