I cast on a last minute knitting project before our trip and actually finished it before we left because it knit up so quickly. I had two precious skeins of handspun angora that I had been saving to make a cowl for Bracken. Since we were headed towards cold and snow for our trip, I knew it would be the perfect time to make the cowl for him. I knit with two strands of yarn and kept knitting until I ran out of the bulkiest yarn, and then cast off. I wasn’t sure how many stitches to cast on, so I looked up some patterns on Ravelry for kid’s cowls and it looked like 42 was a good number for my project, but it turned out being too big for Bracken and I’m considering re-knitting it so it will keep his neck warmer. I’m still deciding about that, but one thing’s for sure- it’s the softest cowl imaginable! I wish you could reach through the computer screen to feel that silky angora!
Well, Bracken’s wish came true and the first thing he did when he got to Bend was to play in the snow with his grandpa. It was snowing on our way there and when we stepped outside our hotel room, there was plenty of snow all around for making snow angels and even a little snowman. Bracken asked for a plastic bag to fill with snow to keep, so we brought out the ice bucket for him to fill. There was a balcony at the back of our hotel room that looked out on some water and Bracken was delighted when he saw ducks swimming all around. When we went down to visit the ducks, they let him get pretty close.
After playing in the snow, it was time for some food. We went to Crux Fermentation Project for dinner. I saw a food menu on their website, but when we got there and saw ‘Tasting Room’ written on the door we were unsure if it was a restaurant or if they only served alcohol. They did serve food and it was good food at that. Their bacon wrapped figs were out of this world, that’s the only way I can describe them really. We all devoured the kale chips. Enjoyed the Brussels sprouts dish and the cauliflower dish, but the bacon wrapped figs beat everything. After that we headed to bed early so we would be well rested for our big day!

So funny about Bracken wanting to keep the snow. We also live in the Pacific northwest so don’t see a lot of snow. Our son is about the same age as Bracken and he wanted to keep some snow in his pocket b/c he was so delighted.
