A time to slow down, to reflect, to be grateful. A list of gratitudes.}

Throughout the week I’ve felt grateful for:
…All the beautiful crocosmias in bloom when we went to the beach with my mom. We’ve been to that same spot quite a few times, but I had never been there when the crocosmias were blooming before and it was quite a sight.
.
…My mom helping us process the harvest by making the cucumbers and onions in vinegar that she used to make when I was a kid. (Cucumbers, onions, apple cider vinegar, garlic flakes, salt and pepper. Yum!)
.
…The feeling of bamboo fabric. It’s so soft and feels so heavenly to wear, it’s like a treat to my senses.
.
…The satisfaction I get when I’m all caught up on mailing orders out for our online shop. I love that feeling!
.
…Watching a video of The Little Travelers (where they travel to Japan) from the library, after my friend recommended it. We all enjoyed it, learned a lot, and it was fun for Jeff because he lived in Japan as a boy and watching it reminded him of so many things there.
.
…Jeff making us a gourmet dinner with scallops cooked in ghee, with lime and pesto. It was so good.
.
…Sleeping in (grateful for those occasions when that can happen) and sleeping deeply.
.
…Having a “puzzle date” with Bracken. I finished up some chores, looking forward to our plan, and then we set to work on a puzzle together.
.
…Jeff helping us get out the door on time. Bless him.
.
…Making banana pancakes after we tried some our friends brought to a picnic and loved them. They’re so simple, with just bananas and eggs, but they were so delicious.

Oh those flowers! Now I am wondering, since I just started dying with flowers, if these would be a good flower to use in dying wool? Just gorgeous.

Just asking a veg question here… Just got home from holiday yesterday and have 9 marrows, which have grown so big from not being harvested while we were away. I remember last year you mentioned that you had frozen your excess courgettes. Do you have any advice from how that went? Do you think that freezing marrows would be a good idea or would they be too watery when thawed do you think? Any advice welcome.. 🙂

Hello Joy! Yes, I froze zucchinis from our garden last year and am doing it again this year. I shred it and freeze it. It does get a little watery, but you can squeeze the excess liquid out. I then use the shredded zucchini in baked recipes, like muffins. I wasn’t sure if it needed to be blanched before freezing, but I’ve been told from multiple sources that you do not need to blanch it first. Hope that helps!

Thanks, i had thought that you had just sliced it. I wouldn’t have thought to shred it (i think that means grate it?). I could use it for sneaking in veg and bulking up chills etc. too.

Oh yes, I meant grate it. 🙂
